Tsawwassen has always been known for its excellent schools, and this reputation has only grown over time as its students have exceeded academic expectations year after year. As a safe, middle-to-upper class community that stands behind its children, Tsawwassen is the perfect place for students to excel in school and prepare themselves for success in adulthood. Here are brief overviews of all the schools in Tsawwassen:
École South Park School
As this school’s name implies, it offers French Immersion, meaning students here can choose to take all of their studies in French, thus equipping them with the bilingual fluency which is highly-sought-after in government jobs. On top of being the only full French Immersion elementary school in the area, École South Park School is also the most populous elementary school in Tsawwassen, with 405 students. Their sports teams are called “the Stingers,” and the school mascot is a hornet with boxing gloves.
Beach Grove Elementary School
Located just a few blocks from the sandy beaches of Boundary Bay, Beach Grove Elementary School is the most common elementary school for children who live in Tsawwassen’s desirable beachfront houses, or in the equally-convenient houses along the nearby grove, which boasts golf courses and other scenic greenery. Like all elementary schools in the Delta School District, Beach Grove Elementary runs from Kindergarten to Grade 7 (“K-7”). This school is particularly known for its focus on the arts, with students’ artwork lining the halls, and a student-painted mural posted outside.
Cliff Drive Elementary School
Having opened almost fifty years ago, Cliff Drive Elementary School has long played an important part in preparing the children of Tsawwassen for high school. Cliff Drive’s focus in recent years has been on expanding educational opportunities for international students and English as a Second Language (ESL) students, as well as offering a Late French Immersion program for students who have not previously enrolled in French Immersion but who would like to begin it in Grade 6. For students who are athletically-inclined, there are multiple baseball/softball diamonds conveniently adjacent to the school.
Pebble Hill Traditional Elementary School
Located a mere two blocks from Tsawwassen’s popular Diefenbaker Park, Pebble Hill Traditional Elementary School offers a formal educational experience that is unique among public schools in Tsawwassen. At Pebble Hill, students wear traditional school uniforms, are taught to greet adults in a formal manner, and study under a very conventionally-structured curriculum. In line with its motto of “Excellence, Integrity, Respect,” Pebble Hill aims to educate children not just in academics, arts, and sports, but in propriety as well.
English Bluff Elementary School
Situated between 4th and 5th Avenue on Tsawwassen’s luxurious English Bluff Road, English Bluff Elementary School is known for placing a particular emphasis on life-long learning. Here, academics are not merely regarded as tests which students are expected to study for and pass, they are in fact considered the building blocks of a learning process that will continue indefinitely throughout students’ lives. English Bluff also boasts a robust sports program, with school teams being called “the Eagles”.
Southpointe Academy
Southpointe Academy is a traditional private school that teaches children from kindergarten to Grade 12 (“K-12”) with the expectation that they will continue on to university. In previous years, Southpointe has sent a full 100% of its graduates on to post-secondary institutions, including prestigious Ivy League schools in the United States. Beyond pure academics, Southpointe also fields students in a number of intramural sports, including soccer and volleyball. When students graduate from Southpointe, they are inducted into the school’s “Titan Society” and hosted to twice-yearly alumni events.
South Delta Secondary School
South Delta Secondary School, or “SDSS” at it is colloquially known, is the only public high school in Tsawwassen, and serves over 1,000 students from Grades 8 to 12. SDSS has consistently produced outstanding academic successes, with its graduates going on to become doctors, university professors, and politicians. It also boasts a popular drama program, multiple championship-winning sports teams (including men’s football and women’s volleyball), and a robust arts program whose graduates have gone on to become professional photographers and musicians.
